A lifetimes' love of music began then, passed through a degree in Composition & Jazz Piano at the University of Miami, and continues to this day.

Mark J Lewis - Longer Bio

Mark grew up listening to Joni Mitchell and Barbara Streisand due to his mothers' love of music. His own studies started with Flamenco guitar with the late, great Ray Mitchel at the age of 9. By12 his focus had switched to piano. Initially self taught, and inspired by Elton John, Stevie Wonder, and Steely Dan. More formal music studies introduced him to Stravinsky's Rite of Spring and Messiaen's Quartet For The End of Time (amongst many other composers and works) both of which made a huge impression on him.

But it was a chance encounter with Weather Report and Jaco Pastorius at the age of 16 that (initially) changed the direction of his life and set him down a jazz path. Mark studied Jazz Piano Performance under Vince Maggio, Music Theory & Composition with Dennis Kam, and Jazz Composition/arranging with Ron Miller, all at the university of Miami.

Post graduation work as a studio session player back in London, as Yamaha's (and then Kawaii's) Hi-Tech Keyboard Demonstrator, and in several bands gigging and trying to get record deals were fine, but composing had always been where Mark's musical heart was. At 25 he made the fateful decision not to be beholden to what music others wanted him to write, and chose to make music a private passion rather than a career.

Perhaps a few too many years later...Mark has finally got back to his music full time. He released his 1st album (of mostly orchestral works), 'Three Views of a Circle' in September 2020, and a single honouring his hero Stevie Wonder ('I Wonder') in February 2021. His latest album, 'Music To Dream With' (of more varied jazz, world, and modern classical music) was released in April 2021.

There is a lot more music inside Mark to come out. The next few years look to be very fruitful indeed.

MUSIC TO DREAM WITH

One of the claims you hear many times when starting to try to get your music 'out there' is 'No one cares [about your music/your Spotify/etc]'. While this may largely be true...here's the thing: I care!😉

This collection of 10 tracks - over an hour of music - has been made with much love, passion, care, and many, many hours of work. Most of these tracks have quietly slipped out individually over various channels over the last few months, so you may have heard some of them before. But these are all new (professional) mixes, and this is the first time they have been brought together and made available for general streaming release.

The music here covers many styles and genres: jazz, 'modern classical', world, ambient...but none of that matters. They are all made with love, and I hope in this collection you can find some joy, inspiration, and some catharsis for the state the world is in.

If you are able to listen to the whole album you will be taken on a journey, through different (sound) worlds, through different times in my life, different moods and experiences. But your own dreams while you listen can take you anywhere you want to go. I hope you enjoy the experience.
